Programs

• Workshops Part of contratiempo’s mission is to educate as well as inform. This is why we offer literary workshops in our Pilsen office twice a month on Sundays, under the direction of our editorial board member Febronio Zatarain. Participants present their own texts to be reviewed and critiqued, a unique opportunity, since the group is composed of both developing and published professional authors. These workshops are the legacy of literary magazines that since the early 1990’s have been held in Chicago by the founders of contratiempo.

That experienced group of authors now serve as mentors for young writers who have increasingly become contributors of the magazine, and some who are preparing first books for publication.

• Café Society en español is a unique program that brings together Spanish-speaking residents for reflection, discussion, and artistic expression, with contributing writers of contratiempo around a monthly topic. This program is sponsored in part by The Public Square at the IHC.
