workshops

We offer creative writing workshops in our Pilsen office twice a month on Sundays, under the direction of our editorial board member Febronio Zatarain. Participants present their own texts to be reviewed and critiqued, a unique opportunity, since the group is composed of both developing and published professional authors.

These workshops are the legacy of literary magazines that since the early 1990’s have been held in Chicago by the founders of contratiempo.  That experienced group of authors now serve as mentors for young writers who have increasingly become contributors of the magazine, and some who are preparing first books for publication. 
From time to time, visiting poets are invited to enrich the workshops.  En 2008, invited guests included Mexican authors Elmer Mendoza, Antonio Deltoro, and Francisco Pamplona, and Dominican authors José Mármol and Rene Rodríguez Soriano. 2009 starts with the great Nicaraguan poet Ernesto Cardenal as special guest.
